Once again the Katikati Sport & Recreation Centre are working with Lions to organise the Avo Festival. Please indicate your ability to help.
Our goal is to establish a new multi-sport complex that caters for as many sport and recreation groups as possible. The complex will be built at Moore Park. The Katikati township and surrounding region is experiencing substantial growth and our local
Sport and Recreation demands are increasing.
Such a centre will initially benefit the 1000 members of 7 sport & recreation clubs. Clubs that currently are without facilities or have facilities unfit for purpose or future growth.
The initial cost estimate is $5 - 6m over 5 years.
The project will be funded by the Clubs through their own funds, fundraising, grants and funding applications through sporting and other charities.
The working name for the centre through the build project is
The X Centre.
The Indoor Centre will look to cater for and have :-
A Wrestling/Martial Arts Gym
Indoor Cricket, Netball, Futsal, Hockey, Gymsports
A Scouts / Guides functional zone
A turf styled floor for all indoor sports types
.
A large capacity Clubroom / Function & Sport Viewing area from a second floor level overlooking the oval & sports fields. An internal viewing to the indoor action arena, functional kitchen & meeting areas catering for large groups. All of this will finally provide a home for a number of Katikati clubs & groups and further Community options and uses.
A full size Olympic Wrestling mat (possibly 2 mats) in a dedicated room will benefit a number of Katikati clubs. Such mats are expensive and damaged by lifting and relaying - far better to share a dedicated mat with a number of codes.
Four changing rooms plus referee changing rooms will finally allow clubs to meet the level of facilities set by their district and national associations, as well as provide safe changing facilities for both male and female youth & adults. The centre will also incorporate the planned public toilet block for the southern end of Moore Park. A shopfront facility for either food or other services or office and storage facilities for groups
With office space, equipment storage areas and Wifi the centre will cater to the full set of needs of each member club and many other facility users.
An indoor arena with a specialised sports turf floor would allow for uses from multiple community and recreation groups. From fitness activities to social and business house competitions like indoor netball, futsal and indoor cricket and hockey.
Finally Katikati will have a very large conference style lounge with proper catering kitchen to allow the hosting of corporate functions. The aim is to incorporate seating for 200 -300+ patrons.
